Abstract

This article presents an innovative pedagogical proposal for the training of police cadets in Ecuador, based on gamification as a methodological strategy to enhance intrinsic motivation throughout the learning process. The proposal involves the redesign of the instructional unit Police Strategies and Procedures through a gamified environment structured in three progressive levels: beginner, intermediate, and expert. Each level includes practical challenges contextualized in real-life policing scenarios, using tools such as Genially and Kahoot to facilitate the understanding and application of key content. The approach promotes collaborative work, active participation, and the development of core competencies required for professional police service, such as the legitimate use of force, search techniques, and special-case procedures. Additionally, it seeks to reduce the stress associated with the boarding-school training regime through dynamic, intuitive, and motivating activities. Gamification is positioned as an active methodology with the potential to be replicated in other curricular units of police education, provided that institutional support and teacher training in digital competencies are ensured.
