CRediT taxonomy

The CRediT taxonomy is a classification system for authorship roles that many scientific publishers are adopting to better manage contributions in the publication of research. This system identifies the specific role of each author within research articles, assigning them the responsibilities that correspond and omitting those that do not apply. The authorship roles are presented in the following order:

  1. Conceptualization: Development of ideas and general objectives of the research.
  2. Data curation: Data management and processing, including annotation, cleaning, and preparation for future use.
  3. Formal analysis: Use of statistical, mathematical, or computational techniques for data analysis.
  4. Funding acquisition: Securing the necessary funding for the research project.
  5. Investigation: Execution of experiments or data collection.
  6. Methodology: Development of methodological design and creation of research models.
  7. Project administration: Coordination and management of research activities.
  8. Resources: Provision of materials and tools necessary for the research.
  9. Software: Development and programming of required codes and algorithms.
  10. Supervision: Leadership and guidance in the planning and execution of the research.
  11. Validation: Verification of the replicability of results or experiments.
  12. Visualization: Design and presentation of the data and study results.
  13. Writing – original draft: Preparation of the initial manuscript, including substantive translations if applicable.
  14. Writing – review and editing: Critical review and editing of the manuscript, both in pre- and post-publication stages.

Each role is defined to clarify individual contributions and ensure proper attribution in scientific production.
