The present study aimed to compare coaches’ and athletes’ perceptions of the training and teaching methodology in volleyball, focusing on five pedagogical dimensions: planning and clarity of instructions, training strategies and methods, communication and feedback, motivation and engagement, and evaluation and reflection. This is a descriptive quantitative study conducted with a convenience sample of 16 participants (2 coaches and 14 athletes) from a volleyball club in the city of Maputo. Data were collected using structured questionnaires based on a five-point Likert scale and analysed using descriptive statistics and magnitude-based inferences according to Hopkins. The results revealed an overall tendency towards convergence between coaches and athletes, although coaches consistently reported higher perceptions across all analysed dimensions. The greatest differences were observed in communication and feedback, as well as evaluation and reflection, while the smallest discrepancy was found in training strategies and methods. It is concluded that, despite a general alignment in perceptions of the training methodology, divergences persist between coaches’ pedagogical intentions and athletes’ lived experiences, highlighting the need for more athlete-centred practices, stronger bidirectional communication, and systematic reflection within the training process.
