Abstract

The city of Manta is located in the province of Manabí (Ecuador - South America). It stands out for its economic contribution in the manufacture of tuna. The development of this activity requires the implementation of quality standards. To this end, most tuna companies use the ISO-9001 standards in their production processes. These standards have had updates over time that include parameters and indicators that contribute to obtaining "quality" products. From the perspective of Crosby (1987) quality does not cost, what costs are the things that do not have quality.

This study puts an emphasis on the ISO 9001 (2008) version, taking a sample of the tuna companies of the city of Manta, and performs a comparative analysis using the evaluation criteria of the Edwards Deming quality awards between the companies that have an ISO 9001 standard or other type of certification and those that do not.
