CEREBRAL TOXOPLASMOSIS IN PATIENTS WITH HIV/AIDS OF THE S.O.G.A. PORTOVIEJO FOUNDATION

HIV/AIDS is an infection characterized by the decrease of TCD4+ lymphocytes in the blood system, weakening the human being and leaving as a consequence a weak immune system that can be susceptible to several opportunistic diseases, including neurological diseases caused mainly by Toxoplasma gondii. In order to determine the prevalence of cerebral toxoplasmosis in patients with HIV/AIDS of the S.O.G.A. Foundation of the city of Portoviejo, during the years 2017-2021, the present research of descriptive, observational, retrospective and cross-sectional type was carried out, which had a number of 38 patients who presented brain affectations, classified as patients with cerebral toxoplasmosis. Of the total number of patients, 2:1 is detailed in relation to men to women respectively; It is also corroborated that the age group 25 to 31 years of age was the most affected and the prevalence of cerebral toxoplasmosis represented 45% of the cases under study. Opportunistic diseases represent an enormous challenge in patients with an already confirmed diagnosis of HIV+, even more so those of neurological type that occur in a large number of patients and are established as one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in these patients.
