Abstract

Pregnancy at an early age is currently a social and public health problem, due to physical and psychological complications. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the prevalence of psychosocial disorders such as anxiety, depression, stress and self-esteem in a sample of 87 pregnant and breastfeeding adolescents aged 12 to 19 years in the rural parish of Santa Rosa, Ambato. For this purpose, a cross-sectional quantitative research approach was used to collect data, using a socio-demographic form, the DASS 21 questionnaire and the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Questionnaire. The results show that 87.0% of the sample of pregnant and breastfeeding adolescents are in the age range 16-19 years, 77.0% have completed or incomplete secondary education, 56.3% have some degree of depression, 62.1% have some degree of anxiety, 71.0% have some degree of stress and 50.6% have some degree of alteration in their perception of self-esteem.The study shows that pregnancies are increasingly occurring at younger ages, with early pregnancy being a situation that alters the psychological development of adolescents.
