Comprehensive diagnosis of the hotel sector in the city of Portoviejo, Manabí, Ecuador

Abstract

Diagnosis is a valuable tool for organizations as it allows them to be proactive and adapt to market demands. To be profitable, the hotel industry in Manabí must  know  its  socio-cultural,  environmental  and  economic  capacities and adapt them to the demand for products and/or services in terms of quality, cost and opportunity, directed towards positive and competitive scenarios; environmentally sustainable. The objective of this study is to comprehensively diagnose the hotel sector in the city of Portoviejo, Manabí, Ecuador. For this purpose, a structured methodology was implemented in stages, which was applied to a group of five hotels in the city of Portoviejo. Using documentary research and the Delphi method, a list of indicators was compiled to comprehensively measure hotel management in the city of Portoviejo; it was found that most of them are efficient in sociocultural, environmental and economic aspects; however, they do not consider hotel certification as a strategy of the organization, in addition, the hotels with the best multidimensional performance are the most competitive at a general level; concluding that hotel management responds to an integral administrative process.
