The impact of inflation and its repercussion on the basic basket through the Consumer Price Index in Ecuador

The rise in prices affects family economies by losing purchasing power in a short period of time, hence the objective of this study, which is to analyze the impact caused by inflation on the basic family basket measured through of the consumer price index, inflation affects the purchasing power of people from the most vulnerable social class, affecting their quality of life. The methodology was based on a quantitative study, applying the descriptive method and bibliographic review, with a descriptive nature, supported by the search for information and data, to analyze the subject of study during 2019-2021. The selected population corresponds to Letamendi, Guayaquil Canton, with 101,000 inhabitants, taking information from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses. The finite formula was applied to calculate the sample, obtaining a result of 383 people. Among the results we have that 82% indicate that inflation affects the acquisition of the basic family basket, 77% fully agree that the government must establish a decent wage, it is concluded that speculation and overpricing affect food of the basic basket, likewise, most agree that income does not cover basic needs, there being an inverse relationship between inflation and the purchasing power of the inhabitants.
