Author Guidelines

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

Recommended guidelines emphasize the importance of following established bibliographic and formatting standards to ensure consistency and professionalism in submitted articles. Authors are encouraged to conform to recognized citation formats, and specific examples are provided to serve as practical models.

The detail and flow of the publication process can be found at  https://revistas.utm.edu.ec/index.php/Informaticaysistemas/information/authors

By adhering to these guidelines, authors contribute to the clarity and coherence of their submissions, facilitating the editorial review process. Consistent application of these standards supports a uniform and polished appearance, enhancing the overall quality of articles within the publication.

Bibliographical References

In relation to bibliographical references, the specific guidelines of the APA 7th edition are followed. This includes the non-italicisation of the addition "et al", the presence of DOI in all references, and the in-text citation of all sources listed. In addition, a minimum requirement of 10 references is set for regular or methodological articles, of which 90% must be scientific articles. Limiting the use of references from websites or non-academic material is encouraged. The use of reference management software such as Zotero, EndNote or Mendeley is essential. Special consideration is given to the inclusion of articles from the journal Informática y Sistemas (ISRTIC) among the references cited.

Formatting:

In terms of formatting, italics are adopted to give emphasis to the text, except for URLs. Appendices or annexes are arranged alphabetically. Figures, tables and equations are numbered with Arabic numerals and begin with the words "Figure 1", "Table 1", "Equation 1" in bold, with the first capital letter and the whole word. Each figure has a title centred at the bottom, followed by the source on the back line in the format "Source: Authors or the reference from which the figure was obtained". Similarly, each table has a title centred at the top, followed by the source on the back line in the above format. Figures, tables and equations are placed after their first mention in the text, and large figures and tables may extend across both columns. It is imperative that figures, tables and equations with 100% view are fully legible.

Regular Papers

The journal welcomes for evaluation articles with scientific content that undergo a rigorous and engaging analysis on a specific scientific topic of common interest to researchers and professionals. Articles may include figures, photos, diagrams, tables, or charts. These may be of one or multiple types, but always in an appropriate quantity, with the condition to argue or substitute text, not duplicate it. The classification given by the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition is used to consider the types of articles, as explained below:

a) Original Scientific Articles

These are the highest priority works for scientific publication in the journal. These articles refer to authentic and original investigative reports; they must include analyses that demonstrate the verification of the hypothesis and generate new and diverse analyses not found in other publications. The goal is to communicate the findings to the scientific community. This type of article will replicate the entire research process. The text should be well-structured, divided into logically ordered sections or paragraphs to facilitate understanding.

b) Review Articles

These are works in which a critical evaluation of previously published research is conducted. The development of the article should include a definition and clarification of the problem, as well as a synthesis of previously conducted research, informing about the state of the upcoming research. The author will reflect on common points of view and contradictions found in the reviewed literature, making suggestions for steps to resolve the identified problem. The structure of these articles includes a description of the methods used to search the bibliography. It is crucial to use updated bibliography on the topic, never less than 20 titles, with at least 70% dating from the last 5 years. Seriousness and rigor in the selection of the presented information are required. The review's purpose, consulted sources and databases, search strategy, criteria for article selection, and citation of primary sources are mandatory.

c) Methodological Articles

These articles address a new methodological approach or modifications to previously proposed research methods. They should provide researchers with data that enables the application of the new methodology proposed. These articles have the characteristic of being presented as appendices and/or supplementary material.

Areas of Interest

Articles submitted for consideration should fall within one of the following areas of interest, ensuring that the content aligns comprehensively with the objectives and thematic approaches of the journal. These areas include, but are not limited to:

  1. Technological Devices and Telecommunications:

    • Exploration and analysis of advances in hardware and technological devices.
    • Research on the latest trends in telecommunications.
    • Case studies related to the implementation and development of innovative devices.
  2. Software, ICT in Education, and Technological Applications:

    • Critical examinations of software and its impact in various contexts.
    • Research on the effective use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in educational settings.
    • Development and application of technological applications to solve specific problems.
  3. Management and Security of Information Technology:

    • Analysis of effective strategies and practices in the management of information technologies.
    • Research on the latest trends and challenges in cybersecurity.
    • Case studies highlighting the importance of information security in various organizations.

It is essential that submitted articles significantly address and provide new perspectives, original research, or innovative developments in these areas. Additionally, authors are expected to offer a clear and well-argued approach on how their contribution impacts the advancement and understanding of specific technology-related topics.
