Coinfección entre SARS-COV-2 y dengue en pacientes de Jipijapa de marzo a diciembre del 2020

El dengue es la enfermedad arboviral más común en las regiones tropicales y subtropicales del mundo. Al igual que otras regiones, las áreas endémicas de dengue han enfrentado el impacto socioeconómico y de salud pública adicional de la pandemia de la enfermedad por coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). Las coinfecciones por SARS-CoV-2 y el virus del dengue (DENV) han sido informadas con manejo complicado del paciente y requisitos de atención. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo, evaluar la coinfección por SARS-CoV-2 y DENV, confirmados a través de técnicas moleculares e inmunológicas, en pacientes atendidos entre marzo y diciembre del 2020, en el Hospital del Día Jipijapa del Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social. Se realizó un estudio de tipo transversal, observacional y retrospectivo. La población estuvo constituida por 239 pacientes de entre 10 y 90 años de edad. El muestreo fue no probabilístico. El diagnóstico de COVID-19 se confirmó mediante el ensayo de reacción en cadena de la polimerasa con transcripción inversa (qRT-PCR) de muestras de hisopado nasofaríngeo, mientras que el diagnóstico de dengue se determinó mediante una prueba rápida para NS1Ag/IgG/IgM. El 3,35 % de los pacientes con sintomatología, presentó coinfección, afectando en mayor proporción al sexo masculino. Los principales síntomas se asociaron con malestar general, fiebre, cefalea, dolor abdominal, deposiciones líquidas y tos no productiva. Los resultados de los marcadores hematológicos indicaron leucopenia, leucocitosis y trombocitopenia.
