Abstract

The increase in overprotective parents characterized by excessive control over their children's lives has caused concern, as it limits their autonomy and diminishes their ability to make decisions independently. In this regard, the objective of this article is to analyze the main emotional and social effects of overprotective parenting on emerging adults. For this purpose, a documentary study was conducted using a synthesis analysis method, reviewing 38 articles indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, Scielo, and Redalyc from 2021 to 2025. Based on this, key concepts were identified that allowed for the analysis of the effects of this parenting style. On an emotional level, anxiety and a poorly defined identity were observed, while on a social level, problems of dependence and difficulties in interpersonal relationships were evident. This prompts reflection on the need to promote balanced parenting practices that favor the development of young people as functional adults in contemporary society.
