Cultivating aquatic species fed with easy-to-handle, available, and cheap ingredients represent an option to meet the growing demand for high-quality protein for human consumption. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of replacing fish meal (HP) with soybean meal (HS) in different percentages (100HP, 20HS/80HP, 40HS/60HP, 60HS/40HP, 80HS/20HP and 100HS) to feed juveniles of the “tegogolo snail”, Pomacea patula catemacensis (< 0.20 g average initial weight), under laboratory conditions. The water environmental variables in the snail tanks were: temperature 27.36±0.50 °C, dissolved oxygen 4.09±0.87 mg L−l, and pH = 7.56±0.29), which remained stable throughout the study. The diets (isoprotein = 399±0,54%) were supplied ad libitum and 100% water exchange was performed daily. All snails in each tank (n = 10) were weighed and measured at the beginning of the trial and every week during the 60 experimental days, to evaluate their growth. In addition, the specific growth range (CE, %) and the average weight gain per day (GPPD, g) were calculated. The highest mean values of total wet weight and shell length of snails at the end of culture were recorded for the 100HP diet (4.70±0.40 g and 2.64±0.47 cm, respectively), while the lowest values (2.30±0.19 g and 2.13±0.45 cm, respectively) were observed for the 80HS/20HP treatment (p < 0.05). The final CE ranged from 2.14±1.13 to 4.65±2.39% for the 80HS/20HP and 100HS groups, respectively. The 100HP treatment obtained the highest GPPD (0.153±0.013 g) in the sixth week. The cost of the 100HS diet was 35.62% cheaper than the 100HP. The total replacement of HP by HS in the diet of juvenile tegogolo is recommended, although it is necessary to evaluate its effect until they reach commercial size (32 mm in length).
