La hipocalcemia puerperal es una enfermedad metabólica de alta prevalencia en hatos lecheros que afecta de forma significativa la salud del animal y la rentabilidad de la explotación. Su diagnóstico es determinado por serología, siendo un método poco frecuente por la necesidad de tener un resultado rápido y oportuno para el tratamiento adecuado y de esa forma evitar la muerte del animal. La información sobre el calcio y su homeostasis, la hipocalcemia, métodos de prevención y herramientas diagnósticas disponibles de campo, fue recopilada en esta revisión literaria por medio de motores de búsqueda confiables. Las herramientas diagnósticas de campo descritas abarcan un amplio abanico de opciones en cuanto a costo, práctica y facilidad de implementación, logrando ofrecer estrategias de prevención de la enfermedad que permitirán un mejor manejo del hato con un impacto económico positivo.Descargas
