AquaTechnica manages its manuscripts through the free software Open Journal Systems (OJS), which is why it requires that its readers, authors and reviewers be registered on the platform: https://revistas.utm.edu.ec/index.php/aquatechnica, where you can also supply the manuscripts for the evaluation process.

In any case (through the platform or sent by email) the manuscript must be accompanied by a letter from the corresponding author, indicating the importance and originality of the work, stating that all authors know and wish the manuscript to be evaluated and published by AquaTechnica and that it has not been published or sent to another scientific journal. Likewise, the letter must indicate that there is no conflict of interest among the authors and any institution, and that all applicable international, national, or institutional guidelines for the care and use of animals have been followed. If there is a conflict of interest, it must be stated with an explanatory description. Additionally, in the communication, the corresponding author must send a list of up to four potential referees or reviewers with their respective addresses and emails. Communications from the corresponding author will be interpreted as the result of the expression of all authors of the manuscript. AquaTechnica only accepts one corresponding author for its publications, unless the study is the product of the analysis of different thematic areas, which merit more corresponding authors, or special cases; If so, it is necessary to attach an explanatory statement from the corresponding authors addressed to the editorial body. AquaTechnica's publication categories are: original articles, notes or short communications, essays, reviews and technical manuals.

Original articles are scientific publications of experimental research, they must not exceed 30 pages and must contain title, summary and keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions (they may be implicit in the discussion), acknowledgments (if any), and bibliographical references.

Notes are short communications on a specific topic, sometimes reporting on the partial results of an investigation, or an invention or technical improvement. They should not exceed 10 pages and should be structured like an article.

Essays are brief communications, with a critical approach on an important or novel topic, based on official data or data from scientific publications. It is suggested not to exceed 15 pages and must contain title, summary, keywords, introduction, descriptive and analytical sections, conclusions, acknowledgments (if any) and bibliographical references.

Reviews are communications on a specific topic of interest to the journal, requested by the committee from a researcher who has extensive experience reflected in his or her publications. However, if a researcher needs to publish an uninvited review, he or she may submit the topic or topic along with a summary to the editorial board for consideration. They should not exceed 30 pages and should contain title, summary, keywords, introduction, descriptive and analytical sections, conclusions and future projections, acknowledgments (if any) and bibliographical references.

Technical manuals are publications that present, in a standardized manner, cultivation techniques or methodologies for the development of aquaculture, they must not exceed 40 pages, they must contain title, summary, keywords, introduction, descriptive sections, methodologies in the form of substantiated protocols, acknowledgments (if any) and bibliographical references.

Articles published or under consideration for publication in other peer-reviewed journals are not acceptable for submission to AquaTechnica. This includes full articles previously published in conference or symposium proceedings, technical bulletins or reports, as well as peer-reviewed published papers. Abstracts or in extenso summaries, or previews of work published in conference proceedings or symposium proceedings, not peer-reviewed, may be submitted for review to AquaTechnica under its guidelines.

The permitted languages ​​are Spanish, English and Portuguese; If the article submitted is in English or Portuguese, the author(s) must previously send it to an English or Portuguese speaking specialist to review its grammar.

In all cases, a short title (no more than 10 words) must be added, along with the title of the work and the summary of 200 to 300 words, with 5 keywords. All pages, A4 size, must be written in a Word processor, with Time New Roman 12 font, single spaced (without formatting) and numbered consecutively. Likewise, throughout the text, lines must be numbered consecutively.

In the text, citations must indicate the last name of the first author followed by that of the second author or et al., if there are more than two authors, and the year of publication. For example: (Acosta 2018), Acosta and Quintana (2017), (Acosta et al. 1994). Personal communications will appear only in the text, with the full name of the communicator, their institution, month and year of communication (Personal communication: Acosta José Manuel, Instituto del Mar, Ecuador, July 2018). Reviewers and the editor can request citation verification.

The cited references should be listed in the references section as a section at the end of the manuscript, following the style of the American Psychological Association (APA) standards with some variants, and in alphabetical and chronological order, following the following examples:

Tables must be numbered in Roman numerals and figures or images will be numbered in Arabic and must be legible, concise and clear. Figures or images must be of high resolution (300 dpi).

Tables and figures should be included in the appropriate place in the body of the manuscript text, after being named for the first time. Legends in tables and figures must be placed above and below them, respectively.

In the manuscript, both the title, short title, summary, keywords and legends of tables and figures must also appear in their original language and in English.

Evaluation process

The material received will be evaluated for its relevance by the Editorial Committee and the manuscripts will be subjected to plagiarism detection through specialized software (Compilatio). The Editorial Committee will make the decision to accept or return the manuscript to the corresponding author, according to its assessment with the calculations generated by the anti-plagiarism software. If accepted, the manuscript will continue the evaluation process through peer arbitration. Evaluators will be used, preferably external to the entity or institution to which the author(s) of the manuscript to be reviewed belongs. The editor will make a decision once there are at least 2 reviews of the manuscript. The decision may be, as determined by the reviewers: not accepted, accepted without corrections, accepted with minor corrections, or returned to the author for a reorganization with major corrections. The manuscript corrected for a second evaluation, once the corrections from the first evaluation have been made, must be accompanied by an indicative list of the changes and corrections made. If any suggestion is not accepted, the arguments that support the authors' decision must be presented.

If necessary and due to the nature of the type of research, the editorial team of the AquaTechnica magazine may resort to the Bioethics Committee of the Technical University of Manabí, attending to any suggestions that may arise in this regard and the procedure will be guided by its regulations (You can view it here).

The evaluation time of manuscripts in AquaTechnica is diverse, but it does not usually exceed 4 months, with an average of 2 months, their publication in the issues is on average no more than 1 week after being accepted, a period in which a pre-test is generated in .doc format and after corrections in the manuscript, final tests in .pdf format for final corrections and publishing the article.  All manuscripts in languages ​​other than Spanish are reviewed by a translation expert, who makes pertinent corrections, in agreement with the author of the manuscript.

After a manuscript is accepted, a communication will be sent to the author or authors, and the production process will begin. After layout of the manuscript in the AquaTechnica format, the Technical Editor will review the manuscript, being able to request corrections, and then manage a pre-test in .doc format, where authors can correct errors and then generate the final tests in pdf format.

In no case will authors may payments for any of the review and publication phases of their articles.

For the evaluation, peers will be able to make their corrections and suggestions, as well as any comments on the manuscript, which will be provided in editable .doc format, and they must fill out an evaluation form, shown here (download here (bajar aquí).
