Impact of floods and their relationship with anxiety levels State-trait anxiety in flood victims

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study state-trait anxiety and its relationship with the impact of the event on those affected by the floods in various sectors belonging to the Calceta parish of the Bolívar city in the province of Manabí. The objective of the study is to evaluate the anxiety levels of the victims, if there are significant differences in age, sex and to analyze the correlation of the dimensions of the anxiety levels and the differences in the impact of the floods of the participants. The study method was non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational, consisting of 151 participants of which 79.3% were women and 20.7% men between 15 and 65 years of age from different age groups. The Spielberg State-Trait Anxiety Inventory STAI and the Event Impact Inventory EIE-R were used, both adapted to the Ecuadorian context. Among the results, a minimum presence of anxiety was obtained with 4.6% and 95.4% weren´t considered affected. It is concluded that there are no clinically significant signs of A-State, only a small group experience a mild level of A-Trait as an emotional response to the experienced situation of the floods.
