Interests and aptitudes towards the profession in adolescents of the Cristo Rey Educational Unit, in Manabí, Ecuador

Abstract

This research focuses on the study of the problem of professional choice in adolescence as a stage of human development. The objective is to study the relationship between professional interests and aptitudes for the profession that a sample of 25 adolescents between 15 and 16 years old, belonging to the Cristo Rey Educational Unit at the Portoviejo Canton, in Manabí, Ecuador, consider possessing. The methodology used is culi-quantitative, the study is transectional and descriptive in scope. It is based on the methods of analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and content analysis for the processing of information. Regarding the conclusions, it is evident that the professional interests of adolescents are related to the areas of Humanistic and Social Sciences and Defense and Security. In terms of aptitudes, the most significant are those that are linked to Administrative and Accounting Sciences. The relationship between interests and aptitudes highlights a lack of correspondence, since the interests are more oriented to the Humanistic and Social Sciences and those of Defense and Security, while the aptitudes are linked to Administrative and Accounting Sciences and to Medicine and Sciences of health. The greatest correspondence between interests and attitudes is revealed in the area of ​​Humanistic and Social Sciences.
