Development of a mobile application for the monitoring of the vegetative phenomenon of yellow corn, in the central Ecuadorian highlands

In this work, a mobile application is presented in which observations of the parameters of the vegetative phenometry of corn are made, that is, quantitatively assessing the growth of the plant taking into account the measurements of length and diameter of the stem. For the development of the mobile application, the Mobile-D methodology is used, the measurement of the length and diameter of the stem in images is based on the placement of a reference object next to the plant and on the use of techniques from the area of the digital image processing through the OpenCV library. The precision of the length and diameter measurement is evaluated using the RMSE (mean square error) estimator in a bank of fifty images, obtaining a standard deviation of the variance of 5,41 millimeters for the length and 5,27 millimeters for the diameter.
